More than 200 UPD faculty members from 14 academic units presented musical numbers ranging from cute to screwball to downright shocking, trading in their usual attire for stockings and outrageous wigs.
The evening kicked off with an explosive opening by the UP Pep Squad with all-out performances by professors Danilo Silvestre and Mary Delia Tomacruz.
This was followed by an extensive performance by Professors Amador Peleo IV, Jan Robert Go, Kerby Alvarez and Cathlyne Joy Alvarez from the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, who danced to a medley of 90’s pop hits.
Mixing fantasy with pop culture, the College of Education did a small skit where young lovers “Chichay” and “Joaquin” are sucked into an alternate dimension and tempted by various characters to the tune of “Legs” by Hagibis and “Macho Man” by the Village People.

(June 24)—Tall cogon grass covering Diliman’s expanse, young acacia trees hardly noticeable along the Academic Oval, the dusty and dirt road that is the University Avenue and massive colonnaded buildings standing few and far between: this was how UP Diliman (UPD) looked in its early years, images that present occupants can only get to see in pages of old yearbooks.
Now, UPD has the rare privilege of seeing how the campus evolved since UP’s transfer from Manila in 1949 through the exhibit The Celluloid Campus: The University of the Philippines in the Cinematic Imagination at the University Theater Lobby.
The exhibit features eight stills from vintage Filipino movies, 16 photos of UPD buildings from the 1940s to the 1960s and an aerial photo of UPD in the 1960s—all reproduced in large scale. Also featured are footages of 23 Filipino movies from the 1950s to early 2000 which were shot on location in UPD and the movie Charito, I Love You (1957), a musical romance set in UP starring then film luminaries Charito Solis and Leroy Salvador.

The University of the Philippines celebrated its 105th founding anniversary this year with an attempt to bring back the community’s love and care for UP.
This year’s theme is “Pride of Place.” As the Office for the Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) explained, they wanted to rekindle the students’ pride and care for the University’s buildings, facilities and environment.
“It is a general feeling that we’ve lost that important emotional attachment. We had it, but we lost the respect,” said OICA Director Jose Danilo Silvestre.
He noted the “physical deterioration” of buildings and equipment, and noted the contribution of littering to this gradual “loss of respect.”
(March 15)--The bust of Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky was formally unveiled and turned over to UP Diliman (UPD) in a simple ceremony on March 12, 6 p.m. at the Bulwagan ng Dangal (BnD).
The bust is a creation of Russian sculptor Gregory Pototsky, who is known for his gallery of bronze portraits of outstanding contemporary figures. The bust is made of bronze and has a dimension of 47.5x25.5x29 cm.
At the ceremony, Prof. Jose Danilo A. Silvestre, UPD Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (UPDOICA) director and UP Theater Complex (UPTC) Officer-in-Charge said Pototsky is known for his generous donations of artworks and is not new to the Philippines, having donated eight of his works across the nation.
